Sai never leaves the house without his jewelry. He wears it around his horns, his fin, and his tail. The jewelry is old fishing line with beautiful things attached as "jewels" - pieces of opalescent shells, natural pearls, pieces of coral, as well as jade stones.
Another accessory that Sai always wears is the red rope around his tail. There is a secret meaning to this that Sai will never tell anyone - he imagines in his head that this red rope will lead him to his soul mate! According to Japanese legend, destined lovers are connected to one another by the "red string of fate." When Sai first heard of this legend it struck him powerfully, as he craves to find love. He took up wearing this red rope as a physical manifestation of his red string of fate, hoping that when his soul mate sees him wearing the rope, they will recognize him instantly.
Sai is a huge collector of kanzashi! Kanzashi are ornamental Japanese hairpins. They are very traditional, and often used by geisha in their elaborate hairstyles. Sai loves wearing hair ornaments when he can, but he does not wish to ruin them, so sometimes he wears homemade ones made of shells or coral that cannot be ruined by the seawater.
When Sai is feeling especially dressy, he wears his special collars, which are custom made for him by obi and kimono makers. He loves to mix and match them with different kanzashi.
